Default My new '87...

Hey guys,

Just wanted to say Hello as I'll be posting God knows how many questions to this section. I gave up my LT1 powered lightly modified Formula Firebird to try out life with a flat 6. I had grown tired of the kids on the Fbody forums. I've been lurking on this site as I waited for the right car and I'm happy to now be a Porsche owner!

I've always wanted an 87-89 911 and last week, I bought myself one for my 31st birthday. This was the car plastered on my wall in High School, and I'm thankful to be fortunate enough to have one in my garage!

The car is carmine red with black interior. She has 80k on the clock. Sunroof, limited slip, sport suspension, spoilers. Recent conversion to 134 refrigerant. Had a PPI and a compression test done before purchase- only outstanding item was non-functioning cruise control, but I'll never use it anyways. I spent the weekend buffing the car out with my high speed buffer and what was ok paint before is now brilliant! The interior is very nice, only needing some new door weatherstripping.

$18,900.

Looking forward to enjoying my toy, meeting some of you folks, and learning!

Paul

Sweet, love the color. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do mine. One thing I am compelled to coment on is the "high speed buffer" thing. I have a high speed buffer that I used back in my RX7 days but I can't bring myself to touch the Porsche with it. I feel better using the Armstrong power buffer.

Enjoy the car and welcome to Rennlist.

You need to do a Road Atlanta DE - the smile doesn't go away for days...

Thanks guys!

Jerry- no, the car is sitting to one side of my 2 car garage, on a painted floor.

Jeremy- yes, I plan to hit a DE in the Spring when I have a little more time behind the wheel.

CN- No worries on the buffer. Grew-up detailing cars. I was a little nervous starting out, but I just took my time. Its key to walk around the car and identify areas that could be damaged before starting the project. Then when you come to them you know how to approach the sheetmetal countour without burning. I've also never really found it necessary to blast away at high rpm, just a nice steady pace.

Lots of good comments on the color. I never even really knew about carmine red until I bought the car- usually the first thing commented on!

Thanks!

Paul

beautiful car Paul, congrats and excellent choice. Get away from those crappy F-bodies, I looked at buying a new SS in 01, test drove it and scared myself silly, definately not a well handling car (atleast from what I am used to) from the showroom! I'll stick to my german go-karts.

Price seems very fair from the pics, got anymore pics?

Very nice! Congratulations.

There is a DE this weekend at Road Atlanta. Come by Sunday and show us the car. If you're there around 11:30am you can do a 30 min open track tour (55 mph limit ).

Well, you know by now that NOTHING feels, smells, sounds or looks like a 911. Especially those of us genetically programmed to fall head over heels in love with them. There are faster cars: So what? I bought my first, a '87 in July. I have come to the conclusion that we go through the same processs of mood-and-mind altering chemically-induced infatuation with the first 911 as we do with a new lover. I recall that my infatuation with my present wife lasted 7 months. I have no idea when it will end with my Carrera. Your car is absolutely lovely. Drive it and smile big. Welcome. You're now hopeless...
