Question engine drop & motor mount questions - 1977 911S

Hello all,

My mechanic will soon be dropping my engine to address the leaking rear main seal. He'll also adjust the valves and handle other leaks (oil return tube/s).

Here's my question: How many new motor mounts will I need? Two for engine and two for transmission? Though my mechanic said I might not need new ones, I really assume I WOULD need them on a high-miles car with engine of unknown background.

Any reason why I shouldn't go with the "sport mounts"? (These are not the solid ones.)

Thanks for any input and opinions,

-Shelley

I replaced the ones on my 84 with the OEM Sport mounts as well. MMs (not the solid ones for "racing" are rubber based and wear/dry out. Replacing mine cut down on a lot of motor vibration.
I vote, do it with the sports.
regards

Shelley,

I replaced the engine mounts on my 81SC with the 'sports' version, and certainly felt better about having them, but to be honest, I don't remember actually noticing a difference. Maybe what I replaced was already too hard

I did the same as the others: 4 sport mounts.

Bill, Randy, Kurt V --

Thank you for the real world reports -- and I now understand I will indeed need 4 motor mounts. Also, I hadn't realized that my compressed OEM mounts may in fact be in "sport mode" already!

Take care all,

-Shelley
