FWIW...just because the cars are galvanized doesn't mean they're rust free. I've seen a few SCs (for instance) that had significant rust issues. Certainly less likely, but nothing is certain and that should be a question on any 911.

Certainly get a rust check at the PPI. If a car is abused it can rust. I've seen rusty SCs myself, and most of them looked like they never saw the insde of a repair shop (or a garage for that matter).

Big problem is if the car has had poorly done bodywork, that can undermine the galvanizing.... you really can't tell... until the bubbles start.... any car 25 years old is likely to have been in an accident some time in its life, so that is an issue... no guarantee that just because it is an SC it will never rust.

But I've seen tons and tons of SCs and Carraras that were reasonably maintiained... but not babied... track cars... driven hard and put away wet... and almost never see a bit of rust on them.

I think it depends on the climate where the car is located and how much salt is on the road when it is driven and poor bodywork repair are all contributors for rust.

Also with all the floods we've been having with the hurricanes in the Southeast may cause problems with rust down the road.

I decided to pass on the 83 SC. The owner would not budge on the price.

I found an Red 80 Targa for a little bit less with a much better paint job, leather seats, new Targa Top, and recent AC service with 85,000 on it.
They have all service records available.

It is being sold by a dealership that sepcializes in Amercan cars from the 50's & 60's so mabye I can haggle the price with them.
