Vin # check?
There are three numbers you will probably want to post so we can research it for you:
1) The VIN number with can be found on a plate under the windshield or under the front hood carpet on the left hand side.
2) The engine type which is stamped on the right hand side of the fan on a vertical surface, you'll probably need a flash light. I think it will be like 911/**, mine is a 911/53. This is the engine TYPE.
3) Also on the right hand side of the fan on the fan support, which is a vertical surface, will be the engine serial number. If you can post that someone can probably tell you with a certain degree of confidence if the serial number is the correct engine that was installed in that car at the factory.
Exterior clues: '71 will have a round mirror on driver's side, '72 will have a rectangular one. '71 will have a chrome engine grill, '72 will have a black one. But most importantly, a '72 has what an oil-fill door on the passenger side of the body, directly behind the door. This is the only 911 to have a door so if it has this you know it's a '72 body.
The only way to tell with the engine is by the number I think.
