Question Remove side mirror

I need to replace the driver side mirror gasket. Who ever last replaced it cut the gasket to get around the wire.

So what is the proper way to do this?

I can release the mirror housing from the door but I cannot figure out how to get the wire out.

Do I need to pop the glass out of the housing and find some plugs in there?

How do I "pop" out the glass?

Again thank you,
David

David,

On the assumption that the mirror is standard - the glass is held in with clips - just get your fingers either side and ease it out - sounds brutal but it will just pop out. Then the wiring and motor is exposed and can be removed.

Regards,

Peter

I recently had to remove my mirror......

To do the job you describe, you don't actually need to remove the glass but......

The glass is released by accessing the slot under the mirror housing with a small blade screwdriver. Flick the retainer that holds the glass in place. I can't recall if you need to flick this to the left or right....

Once the glass is off you have access to the wires. But the only way to get the wire loom out through the hollow bolt that holds to mirror body togetheris to cut the wires so you can pull them through and then when the job is done, resolder and heat shrink each wire together again! Sounds messy but this is the easiest way around you fitting the new gasket.
