Going with New Engine for SC
What shops are a good starting point for a new engine for my 83 SC?
I am interested in a Euro 3.0 up to a 3.6.
All options are out there. I have to either go through a total rebuild, or put the money into an engine with more oomph.
Got info where best to look?

A 3.2L or 3.6L can be put in fairly easy. There are a number of articles written on the web about stuffing larger engines into earlier 911's. With a larger engine, be sure and budget upgrades to your braking and suspension.
I will be looking at doing the same in 6 months. You have a few options.
1) convert your engine to a 3.4
2) get a 3.2 and conver it up to 3.7 (check Andial's website)
3) get a 964 3.6
4) get a varioram (late 993s) 3.6
The first option is definetly the most economical. There are a number of threads on the pelican forum of people that have gone that way. I thing Rdane started from a 3.0. His engine is putting out very respectable numbers in terms of HP and torque curve (more useful for a street driven car).
If you want to swap your engine the cheapest way to do it is with a 964 3.6. Then again you must find a reputable shop that does that. At the end of the day you always end up with a used motor... so you might have to budget another rebuild down the line (your conversion should give you 100k plus miles)
Steve here on this board might give you the best hints. I heard just good things about his shop.
Good luck with your project and please keep us posted.

I am looking for contact info for shops that sell used engines. I have only found one or two.
I'll base my final decision on what is available and at what cost. Got any links to current 911 engine inventory and prices on the web?
Thanks again.
