Hi, I was out in my 87 carrera and when I was leaving a stopped light, I pushed the pedal to the floor and i heard a snap. I quickly pulled over and saw that there was no resistance in pushing down the pedal. Two hours later i had the car towed back to my house to see if i could fix it. I looked in the Bentley book and they didn't really get into the throttle cable set-up, just the clutch set-up.
Now what do I do? Can someone tell me how the connection between the gas pedal and to the engine is made. I assume the cable goes through the transmission tunnel. Is this a difficult task to fix myself or should i bring it to a dealer (5 miles a way) or a Porsche specialist (20 miles away.)
Any pictures or diagrams would be a big help? Thanks for your help.
The throttle setup in your Carrera doesn't use a cable; its a series of rods and bellcranks from the throttle pedal all the way to the engine.
Sometimes a bellcrank seizes up and a rod will pop off its ball stud.
Pull the floorbaod under the carpet and look at the rod ends & bellcranks under the pedal, at the front end of the long throttle rod that runs down the tunnel, the metal throttle link, the bellcrank under the car next to the left side of the tranny, and the bellcrank/throttle rod up to the engine.
Thanks. Steve. Can you get full access to the tunnel from the inside of the car? And if the linkage broke to the engine. I assume i will have to jack up the car to get to it. I assume the the air conditioning console would come off with no problems.
