Recently purchased an 87 cab with 95,000 miles, and on inspection mechanic stated that it would need brakes in a few thousand miles. The light (need brakes) comes on intermittently so he was right.
#1 He is recommending replacing brakes lines with braided lines-Is this a good idea? If so what brand? BTW no leaks or problems of any kind with the brakes-other than the fix ém light is on.
#2 What brake would you all recommend? Casual driver at this point with aspirations for PCA driving class.
Thanks,
Craig

Craig- I also have an 87 Cab, and just had my brakes re-done. I went w/ stock pads and stock rotors. I would not wait the few thousand miles- right now you probably just need the pads and the rotors re-surfaced- if you wait you will need new rotors as well. The brakes on the 911 are amoung the best in the world, and the stock pads work just fine.

With stainless mesh-covered teflon hoses, you need to inspect them regularly, and consider yearly replacement. The concern with these hoses is that you can't see the condition of the teflon hose under the stainless-mesh. The stainless mesh-covered teflon, or kevlar, hoses give better brake pedal feel, as they don't expand like rubber hoses, and are used almost exclusively in the racing world where they are generally replaced each season. If you're not racing, the factory rubber hoses would be the preferred, low maintenance item. The factory rubber hoses should be replaced every 8-10 years.
