Default Radio Not Working Properly

When I bought my car, it had a crappy hifi that did not work very well. I replaced it with a state of the art Sony X-Plod system, but the radio doesn't work properly.

I have connected the black wire from the side of the coax from the screen to the "accessory power" connection, but this has made no difference.

Can anyone help so that I don't have to go and get it checked out and no doubt charged an arm and a leg for the benefit when it may just be a simple connection somewhere?

I doubt the aeriel wire connects to the accessory power on your unit......

Regardless, the aerial system sounds like it needs to be checked in your car as there is an auxiliary amplifier for the antennae so this could be the problem...

I have a similar car to yours and the original head unit gets good reception.

Hang the expense, always best to see a 'spert on such matters

First sony is not state of the art. If you give me some more info on what you have. Do you have just a headunit or do you have amps also. I do not understand what u mean by connect the coax to the black wire. What problems are u having also. By the way a good shop is worth every penny you spend at them. ( If they are a reputable shop) . I do high end car audio.

Along side the coax, there is a black wire that I have been told needs attaching to the "accessory feed" from the head unit. That is all I know. I used to have it in my S2 and it worked fine, but in my 911, there is reduced FM reception and no MW reception.

Yes the small black wire is the power wire for the antenna amplifier. If you connect it to a known power feed and still no improvement in signal quality you have other problems such as a broken antenna wire leading from the windshield.
