Post SC cold starting

My '82 SC when started cold (in the bay area- not that cold!) initially fires up immediately & then dies straight away. It then typically takes 1 or 2 attempts of cranking for 5 or 10 seconds before it fires & it runs a little reluctantly for the first 30 seconds or so, then everything is fine. I'm guessing that since it fires the first time that the cold start valve is ok, but what would cause the engine to die & then start so reluctantly on subsequent attempts? The auxiliary air regulator is at least partially open when cold & appears closed when hot, but my car has never had the initial high cold idle for the first couple minutes that it should have.
thanks for any ideas
Andrew

Andrew, it sounds like you need to have a mixture check done, along with a fuel system pressure test. This is the only way to acuratley diagnos a CIS problem.

Matt, I had the mixture set a couple of weeks ago after I replaced the airbox & fixed a couple vacuum leaks. Overall the car runs much better, there's just this cold start/ idle issue. Previously the car would start & run straight away, but until warm the idle was wavering between 300-800rpm. I've always had warm idle set to 950 - 1000 rpm.
How much to shops charge to test the fuel pressures? What information could this show- whether injectors, WUR, fuel distributor are bad or not?
thanks
Andrew
