Default How LOW is TOO LOW on 911?

My wrench set my car up recently below Euro ride height, and while it looked really low to my eye, I didn't realize just how low until I measured.

The rear ground to fender lip is 23.75 ", and the front is 24.5", which is believe is exactly .75" below what is generally accepted as Euro height. The car has the bump steer kit and the turbo tie rods installed, though it seems to be still bump steering a bit, and I think I've hit the bump stops on dips in the road since lowering.

I use the car on the street, but also for autocross and DEs, with my first DE behind the wheel of this car in a week or so.

I was toying with the idea of having it raised up a bit, maybe half-an-inch so it's still just below Euro height...maybe the full .75" to get to true Euro height. I'm looking for some opinions on what is a good height to be running for this dual-purpose car! Suspension is stock, with the Bilstein sport shocks, and I'm running Fuchs 6 & 7 x 16, but thinking of plus-sizing my track tires a bit, if I can get the fender clearance.

Thanks for any input on the height, guys!

Hi,

My car is pretty low, possibly lower than Euro ride height. The street tires are on 16" rims where the ride height was set. The track tires are 15" however so the car sits even lower. However, I don't appear to have the suspension travel problems you are describing. Possibly this is because I had the spindles raised on the front Bilsteins to allow more suspension travel with less ride height.

It's been about ten years since I had this done, so I don't recall all the details. I don't know if this can be done on Konis or Boges or whatever you may have. I'm assuming this is possible to do this on an SC since my car has Carrera suspension.

Someone else, please confirm or deny...

did the SC's have the spacers in the struts that had to be removed if lowered? If so were they in fact removed?

I'm a little fuzzy on this, but someone will know.

Personally, I think the stock height, properly balanced is the only way to go.

My car is about the same height as you described. 83 sc with 6/7 16 inch fuchs. In additon to a bump steer kit and TT rods, I have 22/29mm torsion set-up with custom valved (to match Torsion rate) rear Bilstein sports. No fender rubbing. No problems at all on the street except for the usual gremlins like speed bumps and steep driveways, just have to take it slow and angle the attack. Handles like a formula 1. Maybe a bit stiff for some peeps, but I love the aggressive look (especially with front chin and Whale tail) and the handling results. Set-up was done by racing Porsche Pros. I autocross about 10 times a year too. It's really comes down to personal preference. I would not go any lower though! Good luck.

I visited my local Porsche specialist (not the same one), and they recommended bringing it up a bit, maybe 1/2". I'm in agreement, as I have an all-stock suspension otherwise, and I think I'm pretty much riding around on or near the bump stops right now. Shouldn't be too big of a deal...there is some travel in the spring plate to take advantage of, they say, so it's not the whole shabang to take it apart at least.

The spacer washers in the front have been removed already, too.

Thanks for the input, guys!
