I am also interested in an aswer. My cruise control does not work either. I just hear clicks when moving the controller but that's all.
I have disassembled the main unit but there is not much to see...

When I purchased my previous Porsche (82 SC) the CC did not work when purchased and I replaced the control unit with a rebuilt unit from Beckman Technology in Durham, NC. Not sure if they are still in business or not, but I just got an '87 Carrera this past weekend and it has the same problem (slowly loses speed after setting the CC).

Here is contact info I have for Beckman, but it is dated - I have not had time to call.

CC? How many of us have ever used it? I have no idea if mine works or not! Probably should check, well... just because. I do want everything to work like factory or better.

mine stopped working about a month ago, right after replacing my clutch. Used to work OK but would slowly lose speed. I think I can live without it

I have a vacuum canister, mounting bracket and brain if anyone wants to make me a good offer. They are big bucks new.

The first thing I would check is the cruise control brake switch. It is bolted to the floor located just to the right of the gas pedal inside the center tunnel. It is operated by a lever that attaches to the brake pedal shaft. The switch can come loose and move. The lever should just contact the switch when the brake is in its normal position. Use a test probe to check. That was all that was wrong with my '88, I am guessing that the switch is the same in an '84. I found it easier to remove the gas pedal to do the adjustment.

Good Luck
Andrew
