Carrera Airbox Mods
Is there anyone out there who is aware of where I can find any articles about modifying the air box on a 1984-1988 911 carreras. I have upgraded to a K&N filter
Any feed back would be appreciated.
Is it a waste of time
Any draw backs
Benifits

just get a little cutting saw and do this to your stock box. (unless your a bad *** and need to spend $175 on CF)
Everyone I've talked to says this is the way to go, bigger surface area than an open element designed for a SCORE off-road truck (thats what cones were orginally designed for to protect against getting plugged with silt in the desert)

I've recently put a "Fabspeed" airbox cover on my '89 3.2, as shown in the post above. The carbon cover is nice quality but the clips are a little flimsy! Fitting is easy! Not sure whether it has made any real difference to perfomance but it sounds much quicker!!

Is it a waste of time -- interms of performance, yes
Any draw backs -- time spent + hotter air gets to the engine, so performance drops off slightly
Benefits - it sounds a lot nicer (to most of us); you get more induction howl; you may feel the car is faster, but it isn't.

A common mod is to drill or cut out 6-10 holes in the airbox cover (approx 1.5" diam). Supposedly gives an audible 'growl' upon throttle opening, as air is sucked in, tho' I personally was never able to hear it. What i did notice was a slight lowered tone or frequency to my exhaust roar (Flowmaster muffler).
Most agree it does nothing for performance.
Try it. It's a cheap mod (free).
