Colorado emissions test

Colorado emissions test
To complete the license plate and registration process for my newly acquired 78 930, I need to get an emissions test here in Denver. The car has a stainless steel exhaust and ROARS and I'm wondering if that system will compromise the emissions output in anyway? It's a US model with a K27 and adjustable RUF boost, 51,000 miles and came from Illinois. I've got excellent repair history documentation but nothing regarding any previous emissions testing. Maybe they don't do that in Illinois?
Any tips or things to check before I let the clean air workers put a hose up the beast's pipe? Does the fact that the car is 26 years old provide any leeway for emissions output? I was reading somewhere that helps to to test the car in 1st gear because higher rpm's produces cleaner output??
Any suggestions would be helpful, and I'll follow up with results.

I don't know about Colorado but in Indiana you must have a convertor on the car or its a fail.
Also all cars 76 and older are exmept. I went through the process three times before I passed.
I had to lean it out as much as I could and I retarded the timing until the car limped into the
inspection lane,, but it did pass.

I would recommend that you not go to a Colorado Aircare center for the check. Go to one of the '81 and older stations. These are independently run and they are generally more lax on the visual inspection. If your car is running well it should easily pass the 77 standard. You might want to have a local mechanic pre-test so there are no surprises.

Yes, I agree with Hetmann. I highly recommend Dick Sparks (Nine Lives Racing) if you don't have a good mechanic yet. He only works on pre 1989 911/930 cars (no other makes or models) and he is great. In NW Denver at 303-422-5923. Tell him Grant sent you if you're interested...
