Default starting problem

My car's starting problem is a bit different than those posted here, but I don't know if it's unique...

My car starts fine, except after driving for a long time in summer or driving hard at DE events. It seems that when I put a long load or a heavy load on it, the red/green tach lights come on, as well as headlights, fuel pump, radio, etc. but no starter engagement.

In the past I have checked the trans ground and cleaned it but this issue continues...infact it has gotten worse. After a DE event (like last week) I cannot start it for days! Before it would start after hours. Any ideas?

Tom

have you tried jumping the starter solenoid when this occurs?

I assume you have a good battery and alternator.

I'll look at the starter/solenoid tomorrow...but what should I be looking at?
Assuming the solenoid is the problem, is this something to be replaced, sent to a Porsche MD for rebuild, or done locally?

I see a starter solenoid in Perf Prod for $50. I also see a 12 v starter relay for $20. Could the solenoid and/or relay be failing under extreme conditions, but operate fine when not so hot or such a full load? Seems like they are failing anyway...
