Just considering picking up a 71t coupe with a 2.7rs motor that has only 10k on it. The car has had 9k dumped in it in the last 2 years not including the motor. What do you guys think? Was considering trading my e36 m3 for it. Any suggestions. And from what ive been told rust is not an issue. thanks
Jake
There isn't enoughinfo to give adivce.... except this:
Pay (a lot) to have a real 911 expert go over it with a fine-toothed comb..... and be sure that 2.7 "rs" motor has ahd all the internal strengthening items done to it.
I've seen examples of "rs-spec" or "rs" 2.7's that run the gamut from the full replica deal (which is a VERY expensive thing to do) to a swapped-in 74-77 motor.
I'd second the recommendation for verifying what you're thinking your getting by having a p-car pro go through it. It's the best money you'll ever spend on the car, even if you don't buy it.
I definately would get it checked out as I have down several times in the past. No it is not the car on ebay. It is not advertised. The m3 is nice but ever since I bought my 74 s I cant stop thinking about those early bumpers. If the car is what I think it may be it would be a dream. Anybody got any specs on 2.7rs motors? HP and soforth. How would it compare to my 83 3.0 motor in my 73. I believe I am getting close to 220hp in that with the SSI's and so forth?
"The engine is a 2.7 that was rebuilt to rs specs. I do have the build sheet on it.
The interior is good. It could use a headliner, but the carpet (original I believe) is good with the exception of a separation located at the door seal. The 9k does not include engine."
22/28 sander hollow torsion bars
22/22 racer group sway bars (through the body)
all poly/ureth bushings (squeaky)
bilsteins all around
all corner weighted/balanced/aligned when installed last year
sc adjust. rear spring plates
89 carrera front struts/brakes
2.7 rs spec w/40mm webers (less than10k on engine) prob around 220 hp
901 tranny w/ short shift (welded in)
From the pixs the car looks pretty good (pictures mean nothing however). The guy wants 18k for the car. He is the third owner. Doesnt this seem steep? The car comes with the original T motor.
That's a nice suspension, probably. Still, I don't see where the 9K is there, outside of the motor. A 901 tranny is going to have trouble in the long term with a 220 hp motor. And I'd also want to know why someone who spent big money on an RS spec motor wouldn't spring for the $50 for a dyno run on it.
Webers are not RS spec.
Again, I think this would need a very experienced eye to see if it's worth anywhere near 18K.
The motor was a gift from is father who purchased it for his S but decided to keep the car original. I would think it is probably worth close to 15k wouldn't you?
