Question Newbie about to buy?

OK, I usually hang out on the BMW boards so I am new to this. I have an opportunity to buy a '70 911T. The car was gutted and restored to be a vintage racer/street car. It is "blood orange" and has many new parts. It seems VERY dry, (ie, no rust). I checked the floor pan and all compartments AND the torsion bar tubes. The car really does appear to be rust free! It is no concourse(sp?) car, there is some body filler and the doors were just slapped on. It has a new wiring harness and wheels and tires. Here is the catch: it has no engine, the tranny is there, (a 915), it has no interior, the dash is complete. I am thinking that it would be a good candidate for an RS conversion or just a cool little street car. I have rebuilt many old BMW 2002's so I am somewhat used to old pre-galvanized uni-bodies. The car came from Mississipi and then spent the majority of it's life in Texas. I think I could get it for $3000, the owner is hard up for cash, (credit card problems). What do you guys think? What could I get a motor for? Maybe a 3.0 or 2.7 or...?

TIA.
J.B.

For a project as you described, have deep pockets, and don't expect to financially get out of it what you put into it. Definitely high on the 'fun' meter. Before investing, make sure the chassis is straight.

Sounds like a great project if you have the $3K to buy plus an additional $12K to put into it to start. Then you can slowly spend the next $10K to fine tune. Have fun.

SandyI.... sounds like you're about on the money.

em.... Porsches are not 2002s (no disrespect...had both love both) triple everything. My advice... buy the car you want fully done, unless this is purely a labor of love....(although you will probably have more fun chasing woman and gambling, and it would also be cheaper...)
