I purchased a Bentley service manaual for an 86 Carrera on Borders.com in April for $40.00. (Price is now $119.00) I have a friend looking for a 83SC Bentley Manual (that also sells now for 119.00). Can anyone suggest any other sources for purchasing this manual for a better price. Also, I would suggest anyone attempting to do their own service, buy this manual. Very detailed. Any help would be appreciated.

Bob,
You need to use the various search engines on the internet to find a lower price. I just did a search on www.mysimon.com, and the best price was $73.17. www.ecompare.com is another source, and there are other book price comparative engines. But you have to keep looking. I got my Bentley manual for $24, but it took me almost 3 months of daily looking to find that price. It seems like there is something flakey in the ordering/billing systems, that online companies get a few copies at a very low price, then the price goes up, and at some point in the future it goes down again for a day or two. Very odd, but with perseverance, your friend should be able to find a lower priced copy.

I tried the ebay auction route for several weeks and kept getting outbid by a few dollars. I had been looking for a used copy as well on the internet and locally. A local store owner recommended trying www.half.com Well, I did and got the SC book for $88 including shipping.

I found it for $19, and bought three copies before the company discovered its error (back to $119, now). I sold the extra two copies to guys who'd pulled head studs and needed a break.
