Talking PRICE ?

I am looking @ a 1977 Porsche 911 coupe.
I know (most or) all the issues of the 74-77 911. Originally i would have never looked @ a 1977s but now there is finical reason (marriage). I have owned 2<qty> carrera's and 1 964 and 944 too. So i know all the maintence issues too.

My question is how much is the car worth?
The car has the carrera tensionars , SSI exhaust and a excellent interior (tan).

Problems: The car looks like it has never been waxed , paint is pretty much gone (red). And the car sits for long periods @ a time. My mechanic stated that the car was in good condition mechanically except for a warm up regulator and the gas needing to be drained due to long of periods sitting.

My mechanic thought the car would be worth about $9,000 but i am seeing SC going for that price.

He said the car should run good for atleast another 20k plus before a proper rebuild would be needed. The car has 100k miles & no rust.

My feeling is the car would be worth around $6-7.5k.

Your thoughts would be much appreciated , thanks.

Wheels size and paint are issues for me!

I just picked up a 76 911S a few days ago for $5,700 It has 200,000 on the chassis but I have maintenance records and the entire car has been rebuilt a few times, including suspension and brakes. The motor has 95,000 since the last rebuild but runs excellent. All power options, sunroof, AC, cruise, new tires and battery. I think I got a pretty good deal.

I think $9000 is pushing it a bit for a 2.7 with an undocumented motor and possibly in need of a repaint. I think your price point is more realistic. You could potentialy spend $5000 to $15,000 (depending on what you can do yourself) on rebuilding that motor and getting a first rate repaint on that car and still be left with a car that may not be worth more than $8 -12k...

Good Luck!

Local market conditions are hard to judge. I wouldnt consider this car unless it was in the 6-7k range though. As others have said, paint alone will push your outlay into SC and even carrera prices.

You can get a real nice 944 for 9k if you really want a Porsche

Thanks for the emails and advice.

For the midwest, i think my price range was in the ball park. Now i must see if the owner thinks so! If not there are plenty out @ sea.

thanks
