2.7 into '71 Targa
We have a ’71 911 Targa that is mostly original right down to the steel wheels. The engine has the usual upgrades for reliability, but is essentially a stock 911 T. The car is in excellent condition & has only recently developed a bad stumble off idle that I think is caused by a worn out Marelli distributor. I have a ’77 911S motor & would like to put into the ’71. I've replaced the bushes, shocks, tie rods and most other drive train items & at 120K the car will need a new clutch soon. I’ve also installed 26mm rear torsion bars, Bilstien Sports & a stock front sway bar (we like to AutoX). I want to keep the stock 911 transmission w/pusher clutch. Can you tell me if this will be a simple swap, or are there 10K little things that will drive me crazy? Like connecting the CIS, new fuel pump & return line, etc.

Hello
Generaly it is a very simple swap. You just look for 73 T/CIS fuel system parts and have a simple bolt in.
On the 75-77 CIS the fuelside is changed a bit so the ways are either fiting the 77 fuel system parts to your body or fit it somehow byusing pre 74 parts.
The electric is also a bolt on. Even the Ignition & alternator is similar.
The bigest problem will be joining the oilines, I would sugest to use the 2,2 Oilccoler and all the oillines including the heat exchangers. Also swap the 2,2 11 blade fan in and prepare a external oilcooler if you want to use the 2,7 extensive.
Keep the old engine if you want a matching # car for the time when you are grown up ( or out ).

Hello
Since the 69 2,2 the flywheels are similar up to 1977.
However the TOB from the 2,2 911 trany is different to the later 915 units.
@chuck
People change the focus of usage over the years. It is always nice to have a matching# car even if it is a lousy poor accelerating T. One fine day people are on a stage where they have other goals.
On the lonng run the 2,7 will not survive in that car and then you can rebuild the original engine and reswap to keep mobile while fixing the 2,7 or search for the 993 RS in track outfit.
