Hey All,
I'm trying to decide whether or not to go to the Hershey Swap Meet. I don't know if it's worth the 6 hour drive from Toronto. I know it's a great event if I need parts (I don't) but since I'll be bringing my wife... are there a lot of historic cars to see? The only Porsche events she's been to have been the Rennfest Reunion and the Porsche Museum at the factory in Stuttgart (loved 'em both). Please post if you can help me sell this idea to her.
Thanks in advance.

Hershey is a neat town....
There is an amusment park and the Hershey museum.
There will be a ton of great P cars around, but I'm not sure that will be a selling point for her. The parts part is ok- better if you had a 72 you were rebuilding. You might pick up some neat items... I got some cool race-type stickers, a license plate that said "air Cool" and some books. Needless to say, this year I'm not going- it is a very long drive from Atlanta!

It is primarily a "swap meet" not a show event although there are lots of cars to see (a parking lot or 2 full of attendees cars). You can go throuhg the various vendors in 2 hrs (if you dont mingle too long in any one place and arent hunting through the boxes of parts). It is a great place for anyone doing a restoration, etc.
If given a choice and I didnt need any parts (or want new toys techquipment) I would not drive 6 hrs to see it. (sorry maybe not what you want to hear). BUT!-
There are lots of other things to see around the area: Hershey Park (amusement w/ an awsome new but old fashion looking wooden roller coaster) and museum (chocolate factory (never been to either so cant say how they are) Lancaster (home of the PA Dutch) is scenic and quaint. The best local attraction (IMO) is Gettysburg - 45 min. south of Hershey. The (free) driving tour of the battlefield is worth checking out if you are any kind of history buff. In fact we went to G-burg for lunch after the meet last year and spent more time there than in Heshey!
In any case 6hrs each way is still 12hrs behind the wheel and there is something to be said for that! - but you may have better things to do w/ the day-
good luck in your descision- be happy to answer any other questions, etc-

The coolest part is checking out all the Porsches and talking to fellow p-car owners, rennlisters etc.
Also good for picking up parts you previously didn't know you needed

Unfortunately, HersheyPark will not be opened during the swap meet. - it is open for a three day weekend ("Spring time at the Park") the weekend before the swap meet, and then officially opens on May 9. See: http://www.hersheypark.com/ -

If she plays golf, there are a couple of good courses right there in Hershey. If she's into gardening, the gardens at the Hershey Hotel are worth checking out - although I don't know how much will be in bloom by the end of April (can you tell I'm grasping at straws? *G*)

If I'm not mistaken, isn't one of the largest antique auto museums in the country in Hershey? I believe the Spring Carlisle is the same weekend, and that's HUGE as well.

Also, isn't it the biggest Porsche get together as well? Just the parking is a fun place in itself. Not to mention the rest of it. And the mesume is fun too - or so i heard.
