Door Stay Modification
Trying to replace the door stays on our 74 911S.
Purchased the Weltmeister upgrade kit from Pelican and cannot figure out how to insert one of the re-inforcement plates for the mechanism inside the door. I cannot find any place to insert the plate, as it has to go inside of the door (between the door edge panels). After removing the entire door panel, it appears as though one must cut the outer hole to insert the plate.
Wanted to see if anyone had done this upgrade and if they were required to cut the metal in order to install properly.
Please see pictures below for further information.
(First picture show's original door stay mech., 2nd pic shows the mech. removed and ready to install new mech. with plate.)
Any questions, please advise.

On my car I had to carve down the Weltmeister piece A LOT to get it to fit. I felt like I spent too much for what I had to do to get it to fit. The Weltmeister parts are made for later cars and the outside plate will not fit the early doors.

here's about what I ended up with to get it to fit-
also, if you have a popping sound, it may be coming from the strap as it twists a little bit where it connects to the body. Using a bolt and locking nut in place of the rolled press pin stops the pop.

Great! Thanks Bill!
I read a similar thing on the Pelican BB. Sounds like it was a problem with 74 and older models.
Hmm... Guess I'll be cutting away tonight. hehe
Thanks again.

Door stays installed...
We finally got the door stays installed after cutting them down to fit the smaller opening that the 74 911 has. I attached some pics. Hope this helps the next guys who tries this mod.

Race Car
I have a 1970 so the outside plate is absolutely too big. Tried to cut it but gave up and just installed the inside plate.
If you have an early car also note that you must make the screw holes bigger for the newer door stays as the newer door stays holes are further apart than then spring loaded ones.
