Default What engine is this?

Hello,
Working late and need to identify this engine:

2.7 MFI, 911/88
6951023

Is this just" a "normal" 2.7 MFI or is it "special"?

Origin Europe? Bhp? Compression?

Thank you to all "experts".

Tom

I can't find a 911.88 type engine as a normal 911 production engine.

I checked 3 sources and the numbers don't show up. Check the numbers again, sometimes the dirt and grime make it difficult to read correctly.

Default Come on...

I have checked the numbers... again!
The engine is definitly MFI 911/88, car is 911 Carrera Targa (think 1976).
Single spark, fan cover says SC 2.7.
Runs strong on dyna.

Gentlemen - time to study those books.

Thank you in advance.

Dearest Tom:

I find a 911/86 as a Sportomatic Targa. Maybe the 911/88 is something very, uhm..."spacial" after all!? Prolly worth over a zillion dollahs.

There are 911/83 and 911/98 engine types and any number of engine serials that might appear as you listed if they are the least bit buggered up with grime. Does the Targa have a VIN?? There are also folks here trying to help. "Study those books" might not be too conducive to additional assistance. 8-)

John, I'm up in Stowe, but some years ago I had a place up on Mt. Tom in Woodstock near the Rockafella's mansion. I'm familiar with Woodstock (we used to call it "Woodsnot").

Great Porsche roads.

ps. anyone got a 911/83 motor for my '68 Lightweight project?

Hmmm...I thought the only thing on Mt Tom was the cemetary and Pogue Hole. Since nobody knows whot weah talken bout: Woodstock is the Town of a Hundred Millionaires. My hectare is in the much more fashionable locale of West by God Woodstock up from the High School. My neighbor is John Doten. Now adaze I can't afford to move there anymore. Ah well.
I don't know about a 911/83 in a SWB chassis; might want to go with a 911/88 extra lightweight motor. 8->

Hrmm, Guys - this thread is looking like a tourist site for Mt Tom!

Just kidding.

Chassis no #911 591 0011
I AM SURE THE ENGINE SAYS 911/88... please don't ask me to check again! I have cleaned, polished, highlighted and used a magnifying glass - IT IS definitly 911/88.
Engine no: 6951023 (yes - sure again). Where can i check??? Who must I speak to? HELLLPPPPPP.

Oh - Jens, nice car, looks like my car - IDENTICAL, white and same bumpers, etc. Weird...

Regards TOM

911 = obvious
5 = 1975
9 = unknown (maybe ZA?)
1 = targa
0011 = serial
engine typ code and number are unlisted in the three sources I have
Reckon you need to check w/Porsche ZA or AG
sorry

Tom,

The 911/88 was fitted to the '75 Carrera Sportomatic. Very rare bird indeed. Obscure? Yup! Special? Only in that it is very rare and not listed in the books. Valuable? Nah. Well, maybe to the fanatical impassioned owner/restorer of his beloved '75 Carrera Sporto that just has to have an original 911/88 engine for his correct restoration.

Best, Jens

I can only find 911/89 and 911/98 both of which are listed as Sportos. What's your source Jens?

I saw the car today here in Vermont. The documentation included showed the engine type as 911/88. I heven't seen a literary reference anywhere (as per my earlier post).
