Default n0ob here! First post!

Hello everyone, I work as a tech at the dealer and have always wanted a 911 (i get my fix by working and driving my customers cars), well after alot of searching and thinking (I have quite a few of these opportunities but they are usually raggy 911's or water pumpers) I found a late 80's job today thats uber clean but needs some engine TLC (easy for me) so my current hobby car (FJ40 Landcruiser) is going up for sale tomorrow or monday so I can get it

Default Love those Little Panzers

I owned just about every other type of sports car until finally getting a used '86 Targa Carrera. Should have gotten one years ago. It's an adventure every time I drive it. I have a 60 mile commute to work at 0330 hrs every morning so I have a blast on the mostly deserted interstates. Makes going to work fun until I arrive. Enjoy and get yourself a Valentine radar detector. It's virtually impossible to do the speed limit when the roads are clear.

well here it is, sport seats, 40% limited slip, sport dampners. and here is the really weird part. after all the Porsches that have been sold in Socal and all the ones that migrate here, I found the owners/maintaince manual in the glove, sure enough, sold and serviced at MY dealer up untill 95! what a trip, im getting it all polished up in the next few days for ins. photos. then off to the shop for repairs! I'm telling you, if this thing gives me the slightest excuse to do a top end im goin nuts on the heads/manifolds and getting some cams!

well i got it in the shop and the motor out yesterday and apart. looks like #5 rod bearing decided to jump ship as it was totaly missing. I found most of it on the drain plug magnet. anyway the crank is repairable. the rod might be salvgeable. but atleast I have an excuse to go nuts on the entire motor now.

Nice car! Nice wheels too, looks like 7s and 8s or 9s. Must be nice to have access to a shop with all the correct tools. What are your plans for the motor?

my plans are for a full on race balance and hardware by Performance Developments, case and crankwork too. some head and intake work, a set of cams, it already has a nice stainless muffler (didn't see who made it, to busy tearing into the case) I'll put a bypass on it (thanks CA for having to put my cat back on for smog!) and my friend at P.D. says he has a kit to dump my airmeter and get a ton of air in the motor. he mentioned it being much better than a chip. but I haven't poked around the kit to see what it entails, anyone toy with this? I'm also going to go through the 915 while its out and see how much of my budget is left to monkey around in that besides a rebuild. and some nice DOT legal race compounds like Kumho Victor racers (what the hell its a weekend only toy)

Looks like it'll be an awesome car when you are done with it. Wish I had the tools and knowledge as you do to do your own work. Good luck with it.
