Alas I am not there to do it. If I were I would not have to ask this but my significant other is going to change out her gear oil in an 86 carrera. Can someone provide detailed instructions on where to jack / lift the car and then where to look for the drain and fill plugs on the tranny. If anyone has a good picture of these things I would GREATLY appreciate it.

This is how it worked for my '73. I would think it is pretty similar.

impresive, this exactly what she will need. She is slowly warming to the idea of working on her own car. It will be a slow process but I will get her there. She is still in the "It's a Porsche it needs someone with a degree to touch it" mentality.
One last question, does the owners manual detail the exact jacking points or is there someplace better to lift the car? She is going to have access to a lift to do this project.
