Balding rear rubber, a liitle sand or water or black ice, a favorite corner,a little 911 confidence- overster on the street - no problem. ( if you think about, your rears are near bald about 20% of the time if you drive hard).

hey guys, nice replies. It seems I have brought up many nice driving memories - lots of nice blondes involved... Always wondered how come there are so many 911s in "total loss" status.

Seems "trailing throttle oversteer" is when you aren't expecting it; "rotation" when it's planned. Throttle steer through Dead Bear at Putnam, the Carrousel at MidOhio, 5b at Mosport, etc. What makes the 911 fast in the hands of someone who knows how to use it makes it dangerous in the hands of someone who doesn't.

I think Bruce couldn't be more accurate.

With a F/R weight distribution of 40-60%, a car will oversteer if driven fast enough (with throttle closed).
With a F/R weight distribution of 60-40%, a car will understeer if driven fast enough (with throttle closed).
It's just physics. If you haven't experienced either one, you haven't been going fast enough. (with throttle closed).

I've had lift off oversteer in AX'es. You do it on purpose to rotate the car in a tight turn, then get back on the gas to finish the turn.
Never had it on the street and would hope to keep it that way.

"are there any street tyres that can reduce this effect ??? (at least in the wet)"
- Tires that have a very progressive response near the adhesion limit will reduce the effect. Often the highest performance tires are just the opposite. I'm told the S03's are very sharp and not progressive at all.
- For the wet, tires that have good wet weather stick, and resist hydroplaning will be better. Here, the S03's maintain their wet weather abilities as they wear and age much better than other tires.

"Yes I have, scary the first time but fun once you get the hang of it"
The pucker factor becomes much higher the faster you go. AX at 30mph is one thing; high speed sweeper at 60 mph (or more) is another, especially with walls, Armco, trees and/or boulders adjacent to the arc of trajectory.

I dont think people give porsche enough credit. There is a turn about a mile from my house that I nearly wrecked our m3 on a few different occasions and not once have I felt that way in my porsche. I have gotten all for tires to drift but I have never got the back to kick out. But then again I have never driven in icy conditions and I am sure that makes a huge difference.
