Default 1970 T 6 volt to 12 volt conversion

I recently purchased a 1970 T (non running) and I'm wondering if all it takes to convert a 6 volt system in an early 911 into a 12 volt is as simple as cutting off one cable and installling a 12 volt battery. It has already been done but, when I try to start it, it immediatly goes dead after turing the key and nothing happens. Could it be the starter? The engine is free but it did sit for a few years. I bought it mainly because of the 930 bodywork and custom interior.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You don't have a 6 volt. ALL 911's are 12 volt.

Okay, I knew that. My question should have been this. Can I take out one of the 6volt batteries and use a single 12 volt battery in its place?

They are both 12v batteries. You can use only one of them, the left side is the one to retain.

Be sure to remove the extra positive cable. Else it will short and potential set your car on fire.
