Default What’s this connector for?

Was pulling up the mat and carpet on the drivers side to access the DME relay, and I noticed this wire complete with a plastic connector, next to the center console area, but not connected to anything.

Anyone know what it connects to?!

I believe that may be for heated seats - I have the same plug under my driver seat as well.

Cool!

Can we retro fit a seat with heating to enable that functionality?

Probably, but you would need to get the element and wiring and deconstruct your seat, and add the switches. Easier to buy new seats maybe.

What year and color are your seats? Look similar to my 88 Targa in silver gray, I think.

That connecter looks after market. The wiring on my 85 heated seats is in the general loom that runs the seat motors as well.

I replaced my seat heater with a American OEM pad (more durable) and that involved taking the seat covers off. Still, they do not function well because the original seat heating elements are glue into the upholstery---at least that what the shop told me. So they are mediocre at best.

You could retroit them but you would need the different panel on the side of the seat.

Oh this does not seem straightforward, to add heating to a seat that doesn't have that as standard.
Maybe there's a way to use this as power for something else in the future.

Interesting how these cars have legacy wires and mounts etc.

It is not for heated seats. It is the connector to the optional auto heat controller behind the E-brake. It is connected on the other end to the interior temperature sensor for the auto heat. It should be tucked up under the centre tunnel carpet.

For "Auto heat" are you talking about this dial?

Your car does not have auto heat. You have the levers coming out of the black plastic housing for the dial control.

My car has auto heat. No levers. Here's a photo of it...
