New tires installed.......good and bad...
Well, I found out that my new to me '91 C2 has 8's in the front and 9's in the rear for rim size instead of the 8's and 10's that I was told it had by the PO. (no big deal)
The car had Comp R1's when I bought it and I decided to replace them with tires that actually have grooves on them in case I hit a big puddle or it rains sometime soon.
The replacement tires are the Kuhmo 712's, sized 225/45/17 for the front and 255/40/17 for the rear.
No rubbing or fitment issues, in fact I think my next set will be 235/40's and 275/40's.
(car has H&R sport lowering springs)
As for handling??
Well, I really liked the grip of the R1's and I find that the Kuhmos break traction in the rear pretty easily when I hit the gas during slow speed corners more than I like. I used to be able to pull out of a parking lot and nail the gas with no problems, now with the Kuhmos, I really have to pay attention to keep the rearend in check.
The ride is nicer since the Kuhmos seem a little softer in the sidewalls.
Just an FYI

I recently changed tyres as well. The Pirelli P Zero's that where on it where 235/40/17 and 265/40/17. Although the rear was good the front was terrible. It would break away quite easily and cause severe understeer.
I changed to 235/45/17 and 255/40/17 Kuhmo 712. The difference is huge. The front is better but like you I have noticed the rear is quicker to break away. Although it is very managable under a breakaway situation. The overall drivability is great, the tyres seam better matched than the P0's. Maybe going to a 265 on the rear out sort things out even better.
