Unhappy Headers, Muffler recommendations 87 cab

Got a 89 cabriolet with B&B headers (no cat) and the B&B single exhaust.

My ears have had enough,

I want any extra hp that is reasonable to gain and a nice deep tune out the pipe.

The current B&B is simply too noisey.

Is there anyway to easily bolt something quieter onto the B&B headers?

I've heard alot about SSI's with whatever to attach.

What's the concensus? This is a street car only.

Hi:

Well sir, the first bit of news I have is that the B&B header design is proprietary to them and nothing else will fit. B&B headers are made for B&B muffers and vice versa.

The bottom line is that you should sell those B&B components and install a dual-in stock-type muffler with SSI heat exchangers. That will retain good power and rid the car of the resonance and drone that B&B stuff are well known for.

We sell & install a package of SSI's and Monty sport muffler that I'm very pleased with. One can also use an OEM '74 dual-in/single-out muffler that is dead quiet.

the B&B header design is proprietary to them
Steve is of course correct in that statement but.....
you could do something like this

w/ a Flowmaster/Magnaflow/Fabiani muffler can and some 2.5" ss U tube

Whether that will be sonicly satisfactory or not I don't know. I do know that it will be noisier than stock and not too different from the B&B muffler.

The issue w/ SSI can be seen here

SSI's are set up for the older pre '84 style heat inlets. To use w/ a later('84 on) some sort of heat tube will need to be constructed.

You could also try to finding a resonator that will replace the stock B&B exit or try the Carchemistry inserts

Bill, thank you for your well detailed input on the heater tubes and the note about Carchemstry inserts. I'll check out that potential solution.
