You have to tell the mechanic what to do & be specific.

A general PPI is just that - general. They will inspect & drive & report.
1 hr = $60 - $80
If you want compression and/or leakdown, ask for it.
1 hr = $60 - $ 80
If you want to inspect for broken head studs . . .
1 - 1 1/2 hr + gaskets & oil = $150

Total $300 + / -

My suggestion:

Start with leakdown & compression.
If that is good, do the rest. If it fails, tell the wrench to drop his tools & call you to see if he should continue or pass.
