3.2 Air Filter.... Flat or Cone ?
On a 3.2 is the Flat air filter or the Cone type the most
preferred ? There are a couple of cone types out there
as well as a couple of mods for the flat air box... holes
or new open cover. which is the best ?
Thanks,
CHuck

I've heard, though have no personal knowledge, that the cone filters look good, maybe even improve the sound of the intake noise, but don't offer any performance improvement. YMMV.

The best setup for your car performancewise, is the stock airbox. Cone filters, although cool looking and sounding, make a little less HP than the OEM airbox.
You may drill 5-6 2" holes in the stock aircleaner cover for improved airflow and I'd stick with the factory paper filters for street cars.

I've also heard that you can LOSE a couple HP with a cone filter.
I drilled about a dozen 1.5" holes on the face of my airbox lid, looking to get a slight (if any) improvement in freer breathing, but realistically looking mainly to get an increase in induction sound. Many guys swear that they hear a cool 'whoosing' sound on open throttle with the drilled airbox lid. I didn't hear anything. I did alter the tone of my Flowmaster muffler (lower tone, with more 'popping' on throttle lift). Just a preference thing, but i didn't like it, and switched back to a stock airbox lid.

I drilled the stock air box on my 85, then put a cone filter on, and didn't notice any performance improvement from either. The biggest benefit to me is freeing up all the space in the engine compartment with the cone so its easy to get at the plugs on that side. Its also easier to take on and off for cleaning.
