Default Calling all G50 transmission owners :)

Hi!
I am doing my research on the G50 - specially on the 1987 911 platform.. (thank you for any input)

what would you say has been something difficult in your experience to replace/refresh/or anything with the G50...

also, what's something you have loved about it?

For myself, the driving was smooth but its getting used to the shifting (versus from how I learned - it was an e46 m3 as a teen-to adult)

also,
Do you guys trust Pelican parts?

Replacing the starter on a G50 is not bad and pretty conventional
Replacing the clutch on a G50 is conventional
Replacing the shift bushings on a G50 is annoying but not overly difficult.
Replacing the input shaft seal or the linkage seal on a G50 is conventional
Replacing oil on G50 is conventional

Very few people have ever had to do more than that. Mine has about 200K on it and no issues.

Reliable, durable, very easy to live with. Zero issues of any kind.

Nothing finicky, temperamental, or "needy".

(Also came from an E46 M3 comp pkg 6-speed.)

thats amazing to hear! mine is at 120k and want to eventually replace things here and there to freshen up.
thank you so much for your input.
I believe I saw a little slight opening on one of my CV axle boot that I might need replacement

where have you gotten/sourced your parts? or do you just take it to the shop?

ohhh m3 gangg ganggggg! my dad has a silver slicktop in colombia - so im used to easy shifting gears.
I found myself very nervous and looking like I didn't know what I was doing when I first started driving the aircooled

when you say "needy" - can you please expound?

thank you for your input!

Shifting does not require any "babying", special "technique", or any other particular consideration. You can just focus on enjoying driving the car.

2006 E46 M3 Competition

1988 3.2 Carrera

(In contrast, I had a '93 Mazda RX7 twin turbo that had "delicate" syncros. You had to always be especially conscious of slowing down any downshifting into 2nd or 3rd for that reason.)

I think I'm on my 3rd or 4th set of axle boots. Replace it/them sooner than later. An axle boot is cheap, a CV joint is not.

okay okay… Im calling shops around my area to figure out to get that replaced. I might also need an EFI diagnostics because on my drive last night- it kept hunting on idle ugly cry

Bushing kit replacement makes ALL the difference. Game changer. I found 2 different remnants of bushing parts when I replaced mine. Clearly a wear part. Hoping that my JWEST engineering bushing kit will last longer than the previous 2.

question- I do my due diligence in researching in regards to keeping my 87 healthy however- my research with average prices on labor/cost when taking it to a shop: It’s very vague

I am at about 2mm in my rear brakes and was quoted 1200$ for the job - is that overpriced? Or average for a shop?

I cannot provide advice on this. I do all my own labour so I only know about parts prices.

My 1989 G50 is running smooth. Except that the transmission needs to be warmed up for smoother 2nd gear change.
