Default Unidentified Engine Number

Good morning,
I have a 1977 911 Targa (US) which I bought second hand in the UK in 2003.The UK Vehicle Registration Document (V5) has the wrong engine number. Instead of 637xxx which is the correct number (easy to double check here for example, https://www.stuttcars.com/porsche-91...ers-1965-1989/), the document says "Engine No 0101000583" and "Cylinder Capacity 2653 CC".
Both numbers are obviously wrong.
Does anyone have any idea where these numbers came from?
Do they ring any bells to anyone?
Could they have mixed the engine number with another part number?

Thank you in advance!

post a pic .. of what you are looking at .. is that printed on the boss of the side of the case by the fan ??

could have been a replacement case many years ago due to the common mag case issues in these cars.

This is a "paperwork" problem. The serial number on the engine is as it should. FIVA has verified it. The problem is with the UK Vehicle Registration Document (V5).

The government clerk (in Greece) sees 0101000 on the (Greek) license (taken from the UK license) and 6373354 on the FIVA card (which is the correct number) and thinks I have changed the engine!

Since I know I did not change the engine, I have to prove to him that the government license has the wrong number. So, I am trying to find out how the heck did the UK license got the wrong data...

Any ideas?

No idea but maybe if you get a Porsche certificate which shows the original engine number and then you submit that with the car, that will prove to the Grecian authorities that you have the original engine?
