Default 78 sc belt

So the alternator belt just broke on a friends car, he is not a DIY’er, so called me. Got a belt on order, any write ups on putting it on?

Dan,

Pelican has a "how-to" for this here: https://www.pelicanparts.com/techart...3-Fan_Belt.htm

The important thing is to make sure that there are six shims that set belt tension. Some of the shims are on the inside of the pulley, and some on the outside. If it was an older belt, the width may have been 9.5mm. They are now all 10mm, so the location of the six shims may be different to get the right tension on the new belt.

Here is some additional info on that: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...ero-shims.html

Ok, got a belt and a 22mm socket, so how do you hold the fan? I do not want to mess with the fan blades, but do not see how to lock the fan.

Sorry, didn't see this earlier. There is a wrench in the tool kit to hold the fan. It is C-shaped, with a little pin that engages with a hole on the pulley.

If he has no tool kit, you can get this wrench in the aftermarket. Sounds like you managed without it though.

Check that the nut remains tight. One of the first signs of an issue is the nut loosens.
