Found this approximately 6x4x1 inch device screw under the dash of my '86 3.2. It is connected to the fuse panel in the frunk by external wiring and a 10 pin plug and has a separate fuse marked "Buss 3.15 amps 250 volts". It is labelled as VDO with a manufacture date of 1986 and part number928617127.00
I have disconnected the 10 pin connector and removed the fuse, There is no noticeable affect on the car.
I have left a message at the VDO distributor but so far no reply. Mounted under dash, 1 screw 10 pin connector Wire from under dash leads to fuse panel and strange connector
Thanks for that. I never checked the cruise function.
The confusing part for me is why is it so poorly mounted under the dash (one screw and clearly visible from the passenger side), and why the extra wiring and fuse at the fuse panel? I could understand it if the cruise was a later stage add on, but the options sticker on the Frunk lid shows "454" which would be cruise.
I'll check it out to-morrow.

They're typically intermittent, given the way they're mounted.
Ammonman. Thanks again. You are correct. When I first typed it into Google it said No Results. I went to the VDO site and it said no results. Thanks, I think I will keep it.
One of the previous owners must have had a problem, as the Bentley manual shows it mounted in the frunk, not under the dash.
Thanks for posting the picture of the factory location. There is no evidence in my car that it was ever installed in the same location even though the build sheet says it was include. I learn something new about this car every day.
That part number is for the control box for cruise control. Dr. Google is your friend...
If you don't want it I'll take it.
Mike,
If you are really looking for another cruise module, I should have the one from the 85 928 somewhere in the garage. I can't guarantee as I never tried to get the CC working on that one, but you are welcome to it if you want. Guess I could plug it into one of my current cars to test it if you need me to.

Won't function in the later ('86 - '89) 911 3.2, as they use a motor driven actuator versus a vacuum one of the 928.
Thanks Simon. I believe my SC came with cruise but the controller and vacuum servo are long gone. Toss it in the car when you come up for Palooza in November if you don't mind.
