993 engine in a 911?

A question for one of my "long time thinking about" projects ![Big Grin](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Would it be possible to install a 993 engine in a non 993 chassie? Lets say a beginning to middle of 70's 911.
I guess everything is possible but I'd like to know how much hassle it would take.
Anyone?

Sure. People do it all the time. Do a search, you should find lots of references. (look for 3.6) Here's one link.

Doable definately. The question is how doabel which is directly proportion to the amount of money you have. Thats said the result is very satisfying! I found a motor/trans (95 993/915) for around 8gs. Rebuilt the trans. But theres huge expense upgrading everything around the motor (front oil cooler, new oil tank, brakes...and then theres wheels/tires. Its a big job to do it right and the cost is non-trivial, over twice what I had originally estimated and that now I'm contemplating redoing the body with RSR flaring to be able to get enough rubber on the road to use the power I now have. My car started out life as a 1970 T, but two years later its now what we loving call a 936, its been expensive and stressful, but well worth it.
You can see a few photos of the car and work done at: http://mysite.verizon.net/rj.mann/id34.html

It's easier and cheaper to do a 3.2 motronic.
But if you're going to go through the effort of swapping, why not do it right? A 3.6 Varioram is a very torquey powerplant. (Speaking from experience, a 964 3.6 is no slouch, either).

1. Keeps engine cooler insulating from the hot exhaust.
2. Knocks down some of the sound and resonance in the pipes.
3. Soaks up the driping oil and keeps the exhcanges from smoking after shutdown.

2. Perhaps.
3. The nice thing about a newer motor is that you don't have those problems plus it starts first shot every time, something, on neither account could you accuse my previous MFI motor of.
