I would like to mount an electric Hirshman antenna in my 911 sc, 1979. Can this be mounted in the drivers side fender just like the manual one that came with the car originally?

I have a '78SC and have a similar problem. If your antenna is a factory fitted manual unit it will be mounted between the door and the door pillar. There is simply not enough room to fit an electric unit in there. It also seems that the door has to come off in order to replace the antenna - what a bummer.

I have a feeling that I will not find one. I am doing a complete renovation and I am thinking that I will tell my painter to plug the left fender, then I will drill the left one to accept the antenna. The antenna is supposed to fit in the drivers side, or at least thats what I have been told.

I tried to fit a Hirshman in my 78 911SC to replace the manual on the driver side. There is not enough room. I gave it to a friend. He put it in in 1984 911 Carrera to replace the stock power antenna on the passenger side. I ended up putting in a manual chrome Hirshman in my 78. Looks good. I had to remove the door to replace.
