Default Back to targa

I have an ‘83 cabriolet but the vin tracks to it originally being a targa. When looking at the cabby top that seems to make sense. I actually prefer the targa but the cabby was such a good deal i had to get it. So in terms of converting back to the targa this winter, any pitfalls or critical things I should know?

i thought there was a literal post sawzalled off the body to make it a cab, in fact i have might have the Porsche documentation with the instructions. Fabing maybe involved in putting it back.

IIRC the targa bar is an entire hoop that slots into the body and then is spot welded in place

Back-configuring it to a targa sounds like a gigantic PIA. Since you are not the original owner and apparently are not enamored by the car, why not just get rid of it and buy a nice targa?

that quote wins this thread...

That targa back glass is in place under enormous pressure. Anyone who has tried to remove and replace this glass will probably attest to this. This enormous pressure is maintained by said roll bar that is welded in place at point of manufacture... How one would put this bar back in and hold the pressure of that glass is unknown to me.. even if you got one , got it back in and welded it, i would think you are into body work and complete respray.

sure would be a big project, we converted many targas to cabs way back then , Would be easier if you had another car for all of the parts
