Hi Harrier,
I have a 83 911SC and the numbers seem to be similar and the use of capitals and numbers looks correct, for the model and type of car.
However, it would be difficult to really confirm if it belongs to that specific car. If you have the documentation and the number does not seem to be tampered with, I suppose it would be correct.
Next, join a club and look at other members numbers and ID plates.

The numbers you posted appear to fall in line chassis / engine for a 1981 US SC coupe from the documentation I have for that year per Original Porsche 911 , only means of determining exactly is to obtain a certification from Porsche which costs approx $100 if I recall , Bert

Unfortunately that has changed over the years. It used to be that the certificate gave you the engine and gearbox numbers. Then supposedly due to the concern over people fraudulently creating "matching" numbers engines for valuable cars, they started to only confirm whether or not the numbers you gave them were correct. Now they don't even do that.

Only way to confirm the engine and gearbox numbers are correct are to obtain a Classic Technical Certificate. This requires an in-person inspection at a Classic-certified Dealer, and it costs $500. See here: https://www.porsche.com/usa/accessor...alcertificate/

Wow, more difficult than I expected. I was at least able to confirm that the engine and transmission #'s were appropriate for the year/model. Thanks so much for taking the time to respond Mark! Looks like you have a beautiful targa!
