Default F1 Boston and TRG Team Together to Fight Paralysis....

Mont Tremblant, QC and Boston, MA – May 21, 2004

TRG drivers Liz Halliday, Kevin Buckler and RJ Valentine took a break from free practice at the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series 6 Hours of Mont Tremblant yesterday to help out people with spinal injuries. For the fourth consecutive year, RJ Valentine’s MBA Group, a holding company overseeing many various businesses, staged F1 Fight Night, a combination of amateur boxing, casino events and charity auctions, held to benefit the Greater Boston Spinal Cord Injury Association/Rise Above Paralysis Project. Each year, Valentine picks one charitable organization to support through the boxing fundraiser, and donates the use of his entire F1 Boston indoor karting center to showcase the event.

With more than 400 Boston-area businesspeople in attendance, more than $150,000 was raised for the Association. Halliday and Buckler, co-drivers of the #66 TRG Porsche, were honored guests at the event. Valentine donated the services of F1 Air, a charter air travel company that MBA Group oversees, to transport the TRG drivers and corporate staff, along with three Speed Channel on-air commentators to Boston and back from Mont Tremblant.

Valentine commented on the event. “We’re hoping that this event helps us make strides towards rehabilitating those with spinal cord injuries. One of my partners, Karen Quast, has been involved with the Association and spent a lot of her time helping the charity and planning this event. It’s wonderful to personally be in a position to help an organization like this one, and the MBA Group of Companies is thankful to The Racer’s Group for their participation.”

Team owner Kevin Buckler was effusive about his evening in Boston. ”First of all, last night visiting F1 Boston with RJ and the team was unbelievable. I have a newfound respect for RJ the businessman because that facility is state of the art, and his ability to put together these charitable programs and attract the heaviest hitters in the Boston area is incredible. The whole night was unbelievable - RJ rocks. On a racing note, the crew did a great job in our absence and delivered us two spectacular car, Ian [James, driver of the #66 car] and I tried a lot of setup changes this morning, and we found ourselves on the “Porsche pole” at the end of the day.”

Buckler just edged Ian James for the fastest time among the Porsches in the field. Qualifying for the 6 Hours of Mont Tremblant will take place Saturday, with the race starting at 11 a.m. ET on Sunday.

The 2004 6 Heures du Circuit Mont-Tremblant will be broadcast live on SPEED Channel, beginning at 11 a.m. ET.
