Default license plates

What is the reason that many who post pictures of their car obscure the numbers on their license plate? Too much potentialy revealing information is already available on the internet to worry about my license plate. We seem to have no difficulty discussing vanity plates and generally our cars appear routinely on the street. Should I photoshop my license plates? I only have space for two cars in the garage, so the other's license plates are exposed all the time.

I always wanted FLAT SIX or FLAT 6, etc. No chance in New York.

Probably to protect their privacy.

Probably to protect their privacy.

I should add that the degree to which someone can find out your name, address, etc. (maybe even your driver's license number and social security number) depends on the public records access laws in your state -- and on how careful the clerks are in the DMV...

I do it because others do, and I can't think of a good reason NOT to.

Since most drive their cars on the street and occasionally park them, I can't think of a legitimate reason to do it. When our cars are parked not only is our license plate available for review, but so is our VIN.

I think people have personalized number plates because they want to be noticed. Otherwise why bother? U can't really admire your plate from the driving seat...

I can't think why it is more for your privacy to post your plate on a 911 enthusuast's forum when you park your call all day at the mall (or at the workplase for that matter)...

i have EYE FOTO on one and nothing on the targa yet.... the wife and i think we might get GO GREEN as it is a dark green color, and we recently passed PA emissions by a mile =) who knows though... the other option to try will be IX XI

i simply think personalized plates are fun in the same vein as bumper stickers and such... oh the dentists in my (work) building have the following: BRUSH (some mercedes conv. coupe) BRUSH II on his mercedes SUV, and the 2nd dentist has OPIN WYD on his mercedes. and as soon as my brother in laws divorce is finalized, im getting his ex "WAS HIS" for the m-powered Z3.... (yes, i stole it from the picture floating around the internet!)
