How do you wash a 1971T?

OK, this is probably the most basic question, but every time I wash my 1971T I have trouble starting the car. I have to let the car sit and then struggle to get it started. I'm careful not to let the water flow over the rear engine grill but I can't rinse off the roof without some water going down the rear lid. There must be a better way. Garbage bag over the engine or something?
Thanks,
John

Cover top portion of grill with thick towel tucking leading edge into the top edge of the grill.

It was designed to get wet in the rain. If you have difficulty starting it afterwards this points to an electrical issue which you should have fixed -- otherwise it will bite you on a road trip where an unexpected shower can always occur (at least in my part of the world).
For me, I just don't spray directly into the engine grill and go for a long drive afterwards to let everything dry off. Never had any problem starting after washing or rain.

Make sure your distributor cover is dry inside and the the coil boots and the wire boots on the distributor cover are selling properly.
Any cracks on the cap or boots will let water in.

Thanks Raspritz, I think you are right. I noticed some spark noise near the coil and perhaps that's causing the starting problem when there is moisture on the engine. Need to diagnose if the coil or coil wire is bad.
