Floor pan differences Targa, cab and coupé
Hi
are there any differences in the floor pan design between the three bodystyles of 3,2l Carreras? From my observations of two cars I have been able to inspect I see like a double plate layering? Is that original or added in for strength?

added strength was added to several parts of the car for targa and cab. so it would not surprise me to hear that the floor pan is different too
Contact restoration design in Guelph Ontario Canada for more information , they make stampings for all these cars and would be able to yell you . Pretty impressive facility.

FWIW, near-contemporary 944S2 Cabs did have double floor pans to add back stiffness. It wouldn't surprise me at all if this happened on the 3.2's first.

Based on PET, the floor pans are the same. The front clip is different since the Cab and Targa incorporate the windshield frame. The Cab and Targa do incorporate front corner reinforcement (911-501-513-40, 911-501-514-40) for the forward corners between the floor pan and the forward clip. . .

So I finally figured this one out. As usual the answer is right in front of me but I was “blind” to the obvious.
what I had observed is like a two layered bottom pan, with a top metal on top of the pan, closely moulded as if it was strengthened or replaced due to rust, but not put there seam to seam, just lazily layered on top. It turns out that what I had been seeing is sound deadening. Probably oririginally a relatively soft rubbery like material and now near 40 years later pretty dang hard. I can just barely make a mark with a nail, but it is “soft”.
so there you go, issue can be “closed”. Writing this mostly for the future if anyone should search for it. 🙂👍🏻

Thanks for the combeack, I'm almost tempted to go and and tear up the floors just to look. Almost!
