1986-1989 Gbody 3rd brake light location
Good morning, I’m in the market for an 1978-1989 coupe and while searching various websites I’m noticing that some 1986-1989 coupes have the 3rd brake light in the rear window, some on top and some down at the bottom and some have the “snorkel “ located on the outside of the rear deck lid. I’m aware that one year Porsche located the 3rd brake light at bottom of the rear window and all convertibles have the snorkel rear 3rd brake light but why do some coupes have the snorkel? Any information would be great
Thank you in advance

Hi @johnnyv555 - check out this video - good info - I believe discussion of the third taillight is in the first 15 min
I reread your post and realize that this video may not have the info you are looking for - but still might be good to watch

When I bought my 88 Cab in 2005, it did not have a 3BL at all above the Carrera Tail. There was a short 3BL in a box of parts. Based on the build sheet I found with the paperwork, the Carrera Tail was not originally on the car but the previous owner put one on and elected not to put a 3BL on. After a year or so of feeling I was about to be rear-ended by just about every type of vehicle, I visited my mechanic and asked him to install the short 3BL from the box of parts. He looked at it and told me it was supposed to be the taller version if you have a tail and a shorter version if you have no tail. He had a spare in a box and we traded. Later I had it painted to match the exterior color and it looks much better than stock black Ever since then, I've had very few times I felt I was going to be rear-ended. It works.
