Question Headlights don't work - 1988 911 Targa

My parking lights work fine but not the headlights. I did a continuity test on the bulbs and they are good. I checked the fuses and non appear to be blown. Although, the fuse diagram is missing so I'm not sure which fuse is for the headlights. Is there a relay or anything else I can check? What about the switch....could that be the problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

see if the round plug from the turn signal switch came loose from where it plugs in under the dash. there are three in a row. it's the outer one. either that, or the hi/low part of the t/s switch is toast.

I had same problem last year; ended up being the hi/lo stalk switch.
They tend to burn out......

Do you have higher wattage bulbs than stock, without adding relays? If so, you probably burned out the hi/lo stalk switch. Ask me how I know. ;-)

Interesting design, the 911, which runs headlamp current through the turn signal/beam dip switch. For just that reason I installed the Markus Sucro (sp?) headlight relay kit in my '87 Targa, even though I am only running standard H5 bulbs. Much cheaper than having to replace the TS or Headlamp switches.

If you track the problem down to your TS switch and need a replacement, let me know. I am pulling stuff out of the '87 Carrera Coupe I just bought to make it a track only car. I will be removing the head and fog lamps, and after that I will not need the TS or headlamp switches. Let me know and I'll make you a deal on what you need to replace - Those switches are pretty expensive if you have to buy them new, and the ones I currently have in the car work fine.

Good luck,
Tom

If it's the high/low switch, they're available from Pelican for about $75. While you're at it, contact Rennlister Marcus Sucro and get one of his headlight relay kits for $20. It'll save the new switch from burning up like the old one.

Thanks for everyones help. I took everything apart and it now works. I must have had a bad connection somewhere. But the good news is the headlights are now working fine and I learned a lot about the system.

Thanks for your help!!!!

Good news for sure! But, add the relay kit to your winter "To Do's" It is only a matter of time.
