Default Targa top question

Hey everyone! Just brought home an 80 SC Targa. One of the first issues I want to address it the top, it's in pretty rough shape. Headliner if flapping and the wind noise is loud due to the front of the top riding high. I want to have a crack at it in my shop before caving in to sending it out for rebuild. Can anyone steer me to a good blow up parts diagram? I poked around the web and did not find anything useful.
Thanks!

i think people just don't bother , they send it in to have it done. Mine needs doing too as my interior is flopping down.

There are several posts on the Pelican bbs about DYI targa top renewal. Not a job for the faint of heart!

I went thorough my 1987 Targa top in addition to many more "cosmetic" issues on my car. I researched the top rebuild and DYI vs. Indy. There are some choices and issues with material for cover and liner. Some of us Taga folks talk about never folding it up (go figure, i love that aspect). I know there are a lot of specs and some science in the design and function of this top. This is mostly in the finished dimension of length from the windshield header bar to the Targa bar. Also the leading edge has metal flange that is covered and that can be bent by hand to better fit down snug to the windshield header bar. It is NOT just the material cover and the headliner. Once done and lots of $$ my top is still "short" in that dimension and quite noisy. Even after i have replaced the $400+ windshield header rubber seal. So be careful. Maybe these issues and dimensions are best addressed by a careful DIY, otherwise my sense is to have a specialist who knows these quirky issues/dimensions/materials or a local Indy you can have a repair, drive, and follow up if needed.

I would love to hear from anyone who has a fix for the wind noise?

I'm guessing you bought the Porsche windshield seal since it was so expensive. That seal is designed for 964's and is not going to work. It's too thick for our cars. Dan Pechtel at Cars Inc sells a custom windshield seal for $150. You need that. Otherwise your top will sit too high and there will be a lot of wind noise.

There are threads where some people have been able to shave the 964 seal to fit, but not sure you can do that after it has been glued down.

Guys, I was able to massage the front edge to tighten up the seal at the windshield. It helped a lot. Had a 30 mile run at 75 yesterday and It's tolerable, at least until I address some of the other, more pressing issues.
Cheers!
