So I bought a set of new Rennline dash ***** (cigarette light/rear defrost/headlights/rear foglight) and the rear foglight **** came with the hardware shaft that screws into the **** and the dash. I was able to remove the headlight **** and replace it with the Rennline one using the original hardware shaft. But the other two ***** (rear defrost/rear fog) did not include a new hardware shaft. Is it simple enough to remove the old hardware shafts from the old *****? I've tried lock pliers and WD40 but the hardware shafts won't budge. Any ideas or experience?
What do you mean by hardware shafts? On my 1979, the defrost and front fog light (I don't have a rear) ***** just unscrew. They are female threaded, and when you pull them out they have a clear plastic rod sticking out that conveys the illumination from the bulb buried in the dash to the ****.
Problem solved. The guys at Rennline were aware of certain 911s in that period came with these odd *****. I received this reply from Damien/Rennline.
"Just as suspected. For whatever reason, there are random cars in this year range with these style ***** and most of the cars in those years do not have them! That being said, I have an order in to ship you one of each adapter shaft we have. Both have M5x.08 on one end that threads into your dash and the other end is an M6 and M7 since our rear defrost **** has an M7 thread and our rear fog light **** has an M6 thread size!"
Shout out to Rennline for taking care of the issue! FWIW, the car is an 83 Euro 911SC.
