Default 911 Buying Help

I am finally going to accomplish a long term goal and get a 911. Super stoked. I will be putting a car seat in the back for my 4 year old (he loves riding in my cars with me). Got a budget of $80k. Looks like I have a couple of options to choose from, and am having the hardest time debating on what to get. Currently on the list:
  • 997.2 C4S PDK
  • 997.2 Carerra Manual
  • 991 Carerra Manual
  • 991 C2S PDK (Maybe a C4S)
Which one of these do you think will hold the best value for resale in 12-18 months? (FWIW, I do switch out cars often, so trying to get the option that would be the right balance of enjoyment, whilst not losing a ton of money). I like the idea of a manual, and think a 997.2 would hold value, but also like intrigued with getting a C4S, or an S for more power/faster car with PDK. All advice welcome!

If you buy an air-cooled 911, you might actually come out ahead in 12-18 months.

^ I agree with the above post. However, with the models you mentioned, I would consider posting in those specific sub forums. You might hear some good information there. All of these cars in my opinion are very special. I think perhaps, with the models you’ve mentioned, do you need to decide first if you want a manual transmission. Second, the difference between an all-wheel-drive and a rear wheel drive really matters to some people. So, I think narrowing those two options down will cut your list in half. I have owned a variance of both models and multiples of both. Enjoy your search!

All of the cars you mention are great cars. All are older models (consistent with your budget), but not old enough to be considered classic cars. The depreciation trajectories of used Porsche models are well-established (see Hagerty used car prices). All will continue to depreciate along those trajectories, barring some unforseen event such as war in Europe. None will "hold their value".

Your best bet on a great car that will retain or appreciate in value is a 997.2 manual transmission car.

I would look for a C2S or C4S. With an S model car, you'll get (among other things) PASM which enables you to get a DSC Sport controller (plug and play) that massively upgrades the ride and handling. Plus with the 997 you get true modern classic 911 with a more analog feel (hydraulic steering) and the absence of electronic nannies. I recently had a 997.2 (PDK car). The only reason that I sold it was because of the PDK transmission. (They are generally reliable, but when they fail {and they can fail}, they are not repairable Porsche replaces them (over $20k).
