Default 1989 Carrera 3.2 purchase-your insight

Hi fellow members,
I am about buying a 1989 C3.2 Euro version.
In the paper, everything looks good, and I will have a look of the underbody with a technician from the dealer soon.
I like to get your insight.
Thanks.

Can you give us a bit more to work with? Based on what I can see, this car is blue and in vancouver, by chance?

There's a long thread a few posts down below yours on this very car. Anyway, word is the car is legitimate. Another member had it under consideration but found it difficult to deal with the dealer around ts and cs. I would definitely invest in a compression and leakdown test, ideally at an independent other than the seller, but if they won't budge on that, split the cost with them. I have an 89 coupe that was sold originally here in town, too. I do think they are asking way too much, but the market speaks for itself.

One other point, regardless of its unicorn status, I would immediately do every single fuel line in the entire car. No one likes a 6 figure carbeque!

Thanks for your insight. The car was imported from Germany by a gentleman who just moved from the Toronto area, and he might try to sell it by himself, but I guess he decided to trade-in it. Before leaving Germany, the car got an intensive refreshment (9,000 euro bill). It has a folder of history which is always good thing.

Have any idea how much the engine compression and leakdown test cost?

I'm would guess they will want 6 hours shop time for both. A very reputable indy here in town did the provincial inspection and was impressed, but definitely do your due diligence. Good luck, I hope this car stays in town for sure.

Did the indy do an inspection on the car we are talking about? As far as I know, the indy is in Langley? What were they impressed with?

Correct, that's the shop. Give them a call to discuss. I happened to be in with my car last week, and we had a quick chat about the car. I believe they simply did the bc inspection, and it needed nothing further.

not sure what it takes for a euro car to be registered to North America... but has the paper work already been done to the car? Looks like a clean car, how's the interior look?

The car is in a Porsche dealer's hand, so it should be ready to sell. The interior mirrors its age but is very well cared for and maintained in my eyes. The dealer just asks top dollars even with consideration of the current market. The dealer just became the fourth Classic Parter in Canada.

This is the one at PCV I assume.

Undercarriage looks to have been detailed/dry ice cleaned. Any new leaks showing up? As part of your PPI, I would definitely have the technician remove the lower valve covers in order to inspect the head studs to see if they are broken or not. Leakdown would be more useful to determine whether there are any valve guide issues.

Surprised at their current ask they don't have that already done and available to interested parties?
